Book Discussion Group Schedule

The following books are tentatively scheduled to be discussed in 2008.
  • January 19 — Las Cinco Personas que Encontraras en el Cielo by Mitch Albom (RC 58961) will be discussed in Spanish.
  • February 23 — Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (RC 54934) will be discussed in English. This book contains explicit descriptions of sex and some strong language.
  • March 22 — Afrodita: Cuentos, Recetas, y Otros Afrodisíacos by Isabel Allende (RC 46986) will be discussed in Spanish.
  • April 26 — The Secret by Rhonda Byrne (RC 63764) will be discussed in English.
  • May 24 — La Casa en Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros (RC 50975) will be discussed in Spanish.
  • June 21 — Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O'Connor (RC 5379) will be discussed in English.
  • July 12 — Como Agua para Chocolate by Laura Esquivel (RC 37694) will be discussed in Spanish. This book contains some descriptions of sex.
  • August 23 — My Invented Country by Isabel Allende (RC 58348) will be discussed in English.
  • September 20 — Ensayo Sobre la Ceguera by Jose Saramago (RC 61001) will be discussed in Spanish. This book contains some descriptions of sex, some violence, and some strong language.
  • October 25 — Blindness by Jose Saramago (RC 46904) will be discussed in English. This book contains some strong language, some violence, and some descriptions of sex.
  • November 22 — Historias de Amor Bioy by Adolfo Casares (RC 50286) will be discussed in Spanish.
  • December 20 — All Aunt Hagar’s Children by Edward P. Jones (RC 63355) will be discussed in English. This book contains violence and strong language.

The group meets once a month on Saturday mornings at 11:00 a.m., in the library's first floor meeting room.

To participate, please call the library at (212) 206-5400, or email us at ahlbph@nypl.org to register. Registration is required. Attendance is limited to 20 people, so call well in advance to sign up and tell us which format of the book you'd like.

For people unable to visit the library, the questions will be posted on one of our online Forums where you may discuss the books. You'll need to be registered for the Forums in order to respond, but you will not need to register for the onsite group. Meetings are held on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. Most of the titles are available in standard print. Some are also available in large print.

Veterans' Day

Citizen's Advisory Council Meeting

Help improve library services by joining the Council. The next meeting will be on Saturday, November 17 , at 11:30 a.m. in the first floor meeting room.
