Library Closing on July 15th for Electrical System Upgrade

Listen to this post.

All branches of the New York Public Library will be upgrading their data and electrical cabling this summer. This work will make the Library ready for future technological improvements that include:

  • An increase in branch network connection speed
  • Replacement of LEO terminals with computer workstations in preparation for the new Integrated Library System (ILS)
  • Patron laptop charging tables
  • Automatic patron counters at library entrances
  • New public self-checkout workstations

All of the infrastructure data and electrical cabling work necessary for these five initiatives will be done together to reduce the amount of disruption in the Branches. The work will require each branch to close for one day.

The Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library will close for one day on Tuesday July 15, 2008.

Closing even for one day is a difficult decision, and we regret the inconvenience. Library staff will check the messages you leave on July 15 throughout the day so that your book requests can be handled immediately on Wednesday July 16 when we reopen on our usual schedule. No further service interruption is expected.

Once again, we regret this necessary inconvenience.
