Playaway Instructions

 

Headphones

  • Playaway must be played with earbuds or headphones.
  • Keep the widest (thickest) side of the book up with the control buttons facing you.
  • The universal headphone jack is on the right side.
  • The first person to receive a title will receive earbuds. They are in a small sealed plastic bag at the top of the container.
  • If you receive earbuds, please keep them since we can’t sanitize them.
  • If you’re not the first person, please use your own earbuds, headphones or speakers.

Using the Playaway

  • Keep the widest (thickest) side of the book up with the control buttons facing you.
  • Press the lower center button once to turn the Playaway on. It’s longer than the buttons on either side.
  • Press again to begin play.
  • Press to pause.
  • Press to resume playing.
  • Hold the same button down a few extra seconds to stop.

Other Controls

  • Keep the widest (thickest) side of the book up with the control buttons facing you.
  • Top left button: volume.
  • Top center button (longer than the other 2): 3 levels of voice speed.
  • Top right button: bookmark a favorite passage.
  • Middle left button: skip back one chapter or bookmark.
  • Center recessed screen: very small display which shows time remaining in a chapter.
  • Middle right button: skip ahead one chapter or bookmark.
  • Lower left button: rewind.
  • Lower center left button (longer than the other 2): power on, play, pause, power off.
  • Lower right button: fast forward.

Batteries

  • Every Playaway comes pre-loaded with a standard Duracell AAA battery that will provide up to 12 hours of playtime.
  • Depending on total playtime, some titles come with an extra battery. That battery is at the bottom of the container.
  • Replace AAA battery with the one provided or with your own battery.
  • The battery cover is the widest side of the Playaway. The opening is on the side opposite the controls.
  • To unsnap it, use a thumb, a coin, or a flat screwdriver.
  • The positive charge (the one with the bump) goes to the right.
  • Snap the cover back on.

If you have a problem turning the book on:

  • Turn it on and off. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove and reinsert the battery.
